Technological imaginaries at the Atlantic edge: digital culture and literature in Ireland
Dr Anne Karhio, National University of Ireland, Galway
This lecture examines the emergence of digital arts and humanities in Ireland from a material, geographical and socioeconomic perspective. It discusses a series of creative and critical interventions by digital authors and artists to highlight aspects of the complicated past and present of communications technologies and infrastructures at the edge of the Atlantic ocean. The story of digital culture in Ireland is demonstrated to be inseparable from the story of globalization and the environmental crisis, yet new technologies can also be harnessed for alternative frameworks for informed critique and citizenship.
