Christopher Newfield is Professor of American Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara and past Chair of the UC's Academic Senate Committee for Planning and Budget; author of Ivy and Industry: Business and the Making of the American University (Duke University Press, 2003), 1880-1980 and Unmaking the Public University: The Forty-Year Assault on the Middle Class (Harvard University Press, 2008). Newfield does first-class work on innovation processes, creativity and the role and future of higher education.
