The Sweden Democrats effect on the immigration debates in the Swedish parliament using topic models Måns Magnusson, Linköping University
In 2010 the Sweden Democrats entered the Swedish parliament, a far-right party with focus on immigration policy. We study the effect of the Sweden Democrats have had on the debates in the Swedish parliament, and especially how they affect the debates on immigration, their most salient question. We study the immigration agenda in the parliament and how the framing of immigration changes by analyzing 280 000 speeches in the Parliament during the period from 1994 to 2015. We use a topic modeling approach for confirmatory text analysis in Political Science.
