Leveraging SRL Theory with AI Capabilities to Support Future Learners
This talk addresses the growing presence of AI in all areas of life, emphasizing its increasing role in students' learning and future careers. Learners should actively engage with AI, not just rely on algorithms. To do this, they must develop self-regulated learning (SRL) skills to monitor and control their own learning. Professor Sanna Järvelä advocates for a theory- and evidence-based approach to human-AI collaboration. She discusses using multimodal learning process data to understand basic learning mechanisms and build hybrid intelligence systems that enhance human intelligence by leveraging our strengths and compensating for our weaknesses.
Speaker Sanna Järvelä is Professor of Learning Science and Director of the Learning and Educational Technology Research Lab (LET) at the University of Oulu in Finland. Her research interests include self-regulated learning, computer-supported collaborative learning and AI in education.
