Abstract Humans act to a large extent intuitively without thorough reasoning about the tasks we perform. In addition to spoken interaction, we also depend much on non-verbal communication. Technology interacting with humans should be aware of these human properties to increase the safety and user-friendliness of physical interactive technology like robot assistants. This talk will introduce these concepts, how they impact robot technology development and some results from human-robot studies. We also collaborate with colleagues from law in developing technology and proposals for regulatory measures to reduce vulnerabilities regarding robotics. Our focus, which will be outlined in the talk, is on privacy, security and safety, particularly in care contexts.
Speaker Jim Tørresen is a professor at the University of Oslo where he leads the Robotics and Intelligent Systems research group. Tørresen has published more than 300 scientific papers. He has also given about 30 tutorials and 100 invited talks at international conferences and universities. He is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences (NTVA) and the National Committee for Research Ethics in Science and Technology (NENT).
